VIA Rail Saint-Hyacinthe Station
This project included the complete exterior restoration of the historic St. Hyacinthe train station, originally built in 1899. The project addressed decades of weathering, focusing on preserving historic materials while upgrading the building’s performance and accessibility. Every stone, brick, and wood element was assessed to determine precise conservation treatments, from repointing and Dutchman repairs to selective stone replacement. Where necessary, windows and doors were replaced with historically accurate replicas, and exterior wood trim and supports were fully restored.
A particularly complex challenge was the triple-arch, whose stability required the construction of a new foundation while temporarily supporting the arch. The final result balanced material authenticity with modern upgrades, including HVAC, electrical, and accessibility improvements, restoring the train station as a fully functional and visually faithful community landmark.
